Wine Review - 2004 masciarelli montepulciano d'abruzzoPurest essence of a divine grape. congratulations to the vintner and my tastebuds. Winners both. |
Wine Review - BLEEARRGHFound this on the clearance rack for $8. I just drank some with dinner. First glass, with a pasta & tomato sauce: started bland and finished odd. Second glass I drank without accompaniment; worse - actually gagged on the last swallow. In the morning I'll pour the rest down the drain. |
Wine Review - A Great Pinot NoirTry Three Saints Pinot Noir. Just fabulous flavor - even my Pinot-hating boyfriend loves it. |
Wine Review - Santino ZinWe have the habit of dropping into our local discount grocery outlet and going through all of the many marked down wines they carry. We buy 6 plus various varietals and brands at a time and put them out at our weekly family gathering for all to try. We have all been very impressed with Santino 'old vine' Zin. I went back and bought all the bottles they had left! Happy to find your site. |
Wine Review - Good Pinots Suck ResponseIn response to : Good Pinot That Doesn't Suck: Well I agree. There are many so so Pinots out there. I expect to pay $40.00 on up for a good American Pinot noir, though there are some exceptions. Look for Gary Farrell from the Russian River area of Sonoma and from the Southern Central Coast area, try Sanford, Fiddlehead Cellars, Foley even the Hitching Post's "Cork Dancer" and their top of the line Pinot "Highliner", Foxen also makes a great Pinot noir. Look for vineyard specific Pinots also like Santa Maria's Bien Nacido vineyard. They produce grapes for Foxen, Hitching Post and quite a few other top Pinot producers in the Central Coast and in the napa Sonoma area. There are actually so many really good Pinots out there right now it's hard for me so sometime make a decision. Good luck with your hunt. That is half the fun! Michael |

powermovers@msn.com Wine Review - Good Pinot Noir that doesen't SUCK!!!Anybody have any good advice on a good pinot noir? Most I've had sucked big time.....especially for the price. In fact, I've only found 3 liked, but onlu ONE that I just love. The last 2 months I experimented and bought 1 bottle a week. Most were either tart and weak, or light with not much taste. I even poured out a bottle of a cheaper B.V. brand. Anyway, I figured out my very favorite which was a 2001 reserve Eryie Vinyards....this was/is the best I've tasted....period......maybe better than any wine I've ever tasted. It's hard to describe, but when I had it the first time for Christmas, it has been on my mind eveyday until I could locate some. It's from a small Oregon winery. It's $50 on their website....if you can find more, or $26 at Costco. The 2nd favorite was another I found at Costco. Its one of their own KirklandSignature wines that they export from New Zealand. It's very full, tasty, and surprisingly yummy.....plan on going thru the whole bottle when you open it, cause you won't stop drinking it. The price is between $16-$17 and well worth it. It's from one of the best growing areas of New Zealand many Americans don't know about. The 3rd one is Chateua St. Jean in California. Their Pinot Noir is very, very, very bold, deep, smoky, and WOW!!! Was this a pinot noir, or did it have some merlot in it. It was beautiful, romantic, and imaginative. This one may actually be my second favorite, but it's close. Fourth and not least is another winery from California. Its winery is Kendall Jackson. Their pinot noir is good and very respectable, and holds it's on with the others mentioned above. The 2005 won all kinds of double-gold medals and many other accolades. It's actually sold out at the winery, but you can still find it in stores. It sells for about $15-$16. I'd suspect that the 2006 is good too, because they're already racking up awards......oh yea...and try their zinfindel....it's the best you find in any price range in the $12-$30 range. Still yet, I'd like to add 2-3 more good pinot noirs to my regiment......any hints or clues out there. |
Wine Review -Also may want to try Reserva Marques de Cacere Rioja 2001. It was simply delicious, especially with about a 20-30 minute decant. My girlfriend wouldn't share the last glass it was so good; so I had to move to beer. I think the wine is rated 94 points, and only cost me about $17-$18 at Costco. I'm sure it's more at a wine store. |
Wine Review - WinesI bought 2 bottles of your wine at an auction and I would like to know the value: 1987 Flichman Privado, Mendoza, Malbeck Cabernet-Sauvignon |
Wine Review - Sangiovese Terre Di Chieti 2006 (Citra)An Inexpensive table wine. I found this Red wine listed as the "House wine" in many mid scale restaurants while visiting Italy. It is Ruby red in colour and has a fairly strong apple blossom/plum bouquet. I would suggest it as an accompaniment to a quick meal ideas pizza, simple brochette,a picnic lunch. |
