Wine Review - Cuvee Princess de Aimery Blanquette de Limoux

Aimery Blanquette

Producer: Aimery
Wine: Cuvée Princesse Blanquette de Limoux
Vintage: 2001
Country: France
Appellation: Blanquette de Limoux AOC, Languedoc Roussillon
Wine Type: Sparkling
Primary Varietal: Mauzac
Grade: B+
Designation: Excellent Value
Price: $14

Blanquette de Limoux is France’s oldest sparkling wine, so step aside for a second there, Champagne! Made predominantly from the Mauzac grape, also known locally as Blanquette, this wine is produced in the hills surrounding Limoux in the Languedoc Roussillon region of southern France.

This particular Blanquette is light and refreshing with notes of green apple and honey. Dry and crisp, with a soft, gentle bubble, I drank this sparkler with Mexican food the other night and it was a perfect match for the spiciness of the jalapeno peppers and creamy texture of the refried beans. I would definitely put a bottle of this on my table this holiday season in place of more expensive Champagne.
