It’s nearing the end of summer and my Rosé-drinking days are almost over for this year – until Thanksgiving that is, which is actually only six weeks away for us harvest-conscious Canadians. So I guess that I don’t have that long to wait, but still, the end of summer always makes me a little nostalgic for those frenetic days of early spring when wine retailers scramble to find some spot to designate as the place of pink in their already overcrowded stores. I picked up a lot of good Rosés in the past few months, but I don’t think that my summer would have been complete without a bottle of Bonny Doon’s fabulous Ca’del Solo Big House Pink on my table.

Pouring yourself a glass of the Big House Pink is like plugging in one of those tropical fruit themed air fresheners that operate out of an electric socket. Papaya, guava, strawberry, peach – well, I guess some of those aren’t really tropical fruits, but the point is that this is an extremely aromatic wine that is juicy and thirst-quenching, an absolute necessity during the hottest summer on record. And no doubt it will be just as tasty in October with my turkey dinner. Just in case you think I’m crazy, Rosés are a fabulous choice for side-dish heavy holiday dinners and always a great way to liven up potentially dry and stringy birds. That and sparkling Shiraz, but that calls for a separate review!
