Thanks to California’s white Zinfandel craze of the 1970s and 1980s, you may be inclined to run the other way when you see a bottle of pink wine on the table. Do me a favor and give this one a chance. Hailing from Provence, where the vast majority of rosés are dry, crisp and amazingly thirst quenching, Chateau Routas Rouvière Rosé is a perfect example of pink wine made right. …

Light-bodied, with flavours of strawberry, peppery spice and a hint of licorice, this is a perfect beverage choice when the weather is hot and all you want to do is chill out. Incredibly versatile with food, this wine pairs perfectly with spicy BBQ or a light summer salad. Rosés are mostly meant to be drunk when they’re young and fresh, so pop open this bottle soon and don’t worry about saving it for a rainy day. (07/06/05)

This is a terrific wine; I've had quite a few bottles of the stuff this summer. The antidote for 95 degree days.

I'm not sure where you bought it, but the Bieler Family, who own Routas have prided themselves on producing the best rosé, for under $10, for a number of years. It's under ten bucks here in San Francisco, and it is gorgeously salmon-colored, with strawberries and citrusy flavours, and yes, paired well with many foods. A bargain and a precious comodity.
